Baking Calculator FAQs
Find answers about cake costing, pricing, recipe scaling and cake tin conversion.
How do I calculate the cost of making a cake?
Enter the price and quantity used for each ingredient. Then add the cost of the cake box, cake board, decorations, labour, electricity or gas, and other overheads. The calculator combines these amounts to estimate your production cost.
How do I calculate a selling price for my cake?
Add your ingredient and other production costs, enter the wastage and selling fee percentages, and set your target selling price. The calculator estimates the production cost per unit, profit per unit, profit margin and markup. Check that your price also covers any costs you have not entered.
What is the difference between profit margin and markup?
Profit margin is profit as a percentage of the selling price. Markup is profit as a percentage of the cost. They measure profit in different ways, so their percentages are usually different.
How do I scale a cake recipe for more cakes?
Open the Recipe Scaling tab. Enter the original yield and the desired yield, then add each ingredient and its original quantity. The calculator multiplies the ingredient quantities by the ratio of desired yield to original yield.
How do I convert a recipe to a different cake tin size?
In the Cake Tin Batter Converter, enter the diameter of the original round tin and the target round tin, then select Apply Tin Factor to Desired Yield. The calculator uses the ratio of the tins' areas. This estimate assumes both tins have the same depth and shape.
How do I calculate ingredient cost when I buy in bulk?
Enter the price for the full quantity you bought and choose its unit, such as kg, litre or piece. Then enter the amount used in the recipe and its unit. For example, for flour costing ₹50 per kg, using 250 g costs ₹12.50.
Can I include packaging, labour and electricity costs?
Yes. Add your box and packaging, cake board, ribbon and decorations, labour, electricity or gas, and other overheads in the Packaging, Labour & Overheads section.
Can I print or save my cake cost calculation?
Use Print / Save PDF to prepare a costing sheet, or use Copy Summary to copy the main pricing figures. If copying is blocked by your browser, you can still print the sheet or copy the values manually.
